"Erie Gives is a community-wide collective giving effort that supports nonprofits serving Erie County. On Erie Gives day, individuals, families, and businesses come together to make online donations—and those gifts add up to a big impact across the region." Have you ever wondered about the stories that shaped Corry and the surrounding area? The Corry Area Historical Society Museum invites you to embark on a fascinating journey through our local past!
Our story began with a dedicated search in 1959, culminating in the formation of the Society on June 1, 1965. Driven by the desire to preserve a piece of Corry's industrial heritage – a coal-fired Climax locomotive built right here until 1930 – a passionate group of individuals embarked on a mission. Their efforts led to the acquisition of a Climax engine, which found its permanent home in our museum. From this initial spark of preservation, the Corry Area Historical Society, Inc. grew. Through the tireless dedication of volunteers and the generous support of the community, our museum evolved from a simple enclosure for the Climax engine into a sprawling repository of local history. Delve into a treasure trove of photographs, maps, genealogical records, and meticulously organized newspaper clippings, offering invaluable insights into local families, organizations, businesses, and events.
The best part? Admission to the Corry Area Historical Society Museum is absolutely FREE! While donations are always gratefully accepted and crucial to our continued operation, there is no obligation to pay to experience the rich tapestry of our local heritage. We warmly invite you to visit the Corry Area Historical Society Museum and discover the fascinating stories that make our community unique. Whether you're a lifelong resident or a curious visitor, there's something for everyone to learn and appreciate. We look forward to welcoming you!
